There are many different reasons why you might want to take drugs when you sell sex. Drugs make our senses numb, the limits of your body and mind can be stretched, and this can make you feel bad or worse.
Apart from the fact that drugs are bad for your health, both legal drugs (such as alcohol) and illegal drugs affect your judgment. This means that when you have taken drugs, you are taking a higher risk when meeting a buyer. You may stretch your limits more than you really want to, or the buyer might take control and take advantage of the situation. There is also a risk of negative physical consecquences – for example, poppers are sometimes used when having anal sex or fisting, and the drug can lead to your not feeling that something is breaking, because the pain comes later on and not directly.
If you feel like you have to drink alcohol or take drugs when selling sex, just to get through a meeting or handle your feelings after a meeting, this is an alarm signal that you are doing something that is not good for you. Often, you will already know this.
Some people sell sex to pay for alcohol or drugs. It is your decision if you want to stop selling sex or stop taking drugs. Only you can decide what is best and most realistic for you.
If you feel like you have a problem with alcohol or drugs, it can be a good idea to get help to make a plan for your health. There are addiction centres all over the country, which are called Beroendemottagning in Swedish. Call the number 1177 (the Swedish National number for health care-related advice) to find out where your nearest centre is. Most addiction centres can handle questions about selling sex, but they are not always experts on this. If you do not feel okay with the contact person you meet, you can ask to get someone else. Take care of yourself.
